I left the USA in 1972 and returned only recently in March 2020 (mid-COVID pre-election). After watching from a distance what went on here for 49 years, and now seeing things up close for 2 years, I have come to certain conclusions regarding: the political situation here, and where I stand on the ideological scale. “Ideologies (beliefs) have consequences” and it’s important for each of us to know what hill(s) we are willing to die on, and what we are ready to fight for in order to help our society function and even flourish…Here are some of mine, as of July 2022.

I do believe a better world is well within our grasp
and finding how to make that happen our most pressing task
I think I’ve found it all boils down to one essential key:
Find who holds the surest truth, the right philosophy

We each believe the truths we hold can help improve out plight
But how in Heaven’s name can we be CERTAIN that we’re right?
For many years now I’ve examined different schools of thought,
and I can say with clarity a couple of things I’m NOT:

Chorus
I can’t be a Democrat
Republican’s not where it’s at
Hopeless as it all might seem
I still have a dream:
Of Peace on earth, love one another
Still my goals, and so my brothers,
I won’t vote or tip my hat
For anything short of that!
I will vote and tip my hat
for anything close to that

I’ve got a problem with most “isms” and worldviews that I’ve seen
It’s much the same with most religions—if you know just what I mean
Give me peace, and give me love, that’s right where I’m at
I do believe the truest creed has gotta be full of that

“Where’d we come from?” “What’s our problem?” and “Can this mess be fixed??”
Are questions needing answers, and we’d better find some quick
It’s hard to join a party when the parties seem so sick
“The lesser of two evils” is not anything that I’d pick

I can’t be a Democrat
Republican’s not where it’s at

Still my goals, if I’d my druthers
I would vote and tip my hat
For anything close to that

I'm quite optimistic things can change,
