Of all the things I treasure in this life, the children I have been given head the top of that list. I have admittedly failed many times as a father, and fallen short of what I would like to have been to each of them. I recognize that the love I have has not always been expressed adequately, due to different reasons: the physical distance between us, events of the past that have affected our relationship, and the distractions of daily living that tend crowd out the most important things in favor of more ’in your face’ things happening.

But that doesn’t change the underlying ever-constant love I have for each one of my special children, the joy of their initial arrival, and the extreme happiness of having shared time together in years of growth and companionship.

Some have serious issues with me, and I have no illusions about fixing everything with a song…but if at least each one can see or feel by way of a song how much I treasure them, then I am grateful for that song in expressing my thanks for the gift of them in my life. This is a song of thanksgiving for the children I love.
