Life seemed simpler in my younger years...as some tell it, truth is now 'relative' instead of something you can count on like it used to be. With so many changes these 60 years, I see a world that has made some positive progress forward, but at the same time has lost solid ground to stand on in areas that made a lot of sense. The tyranny of modernity rages on, and what C. S. Lewis called 'chronological snobbery' reigns...But I have learned that just because something is NEW doesn't make it necessarily CORRECT. I think we've lost a lot along with all of our gains, and my whole-hearted vote is to return to some of what we have lost in our quest for 'progress.'
lyrics
Well, "right and wrong" when I was young
Was very plain to everyone,
Simple like the A-B-C's we learned when I was three.
But those days of clarity are passed;
Today they're teaching in the class
That any point of view is true,
And there are no more absolutes.
They teach man descended from the ape,
So monkey ways we imitate,
We follow where our impulse leads & do just as we please.
Yes, morally we've been advised
To do what's right in our own eyes;
And while we're feeling free at last,
Our society is crumblin' fast, and we're headed...
Chorus:
Back to the jungle,
'Cause we're throwing out all of the rules,
We broke with our forefathers,
Kicked the Good Book out of the schools;
Turned a blind eye and a deaf ear
To the wisdom that's from above,
So it's back to the jungle,
Unless we get back to the God of love.
You know, in science and technology,
We're pressing forward rapidly,
But looking at things morally, how are our priorities?:
We save the whales, the bats, the pests,
But kill our babies in the nest
We search for life in outer space,
But can’t get along as a human race.
Oh, television's laid good taste aside-
Pandora's box is open wide;
Now good is evil, and evil's good, or so says Hollywood.
We've all acquired a taste for blood-
A show without some is a dud;
We eat it up and then lament our streets our violent,
And that we're headed...
Chorus:
Back to the jungle,
'Cause we're throwing out all of the rules,
We broke with our forefathers,
Kicked the Good Book out of the schools;
Turned a blind eye and a deaf ear
To the wisdom that's from above,
So it's back to the jungle,
Unless we get back to the God of love.
Now, how much longer will we stand
The mass confusion in our land?
All our wisdom's in defeat as hatred rules the streets!
We've tried man's theories long enough -
This world's headed down and I'm fed up.
Let’s wake up now and buck the tide
And stop this downward slide, because we’re headed…
Chorus:
Back to the jungle,
'Cause we're throwing out all of the rules,
We broke with our forefathers,
Kicked the Good Book out of the schools;
Turned a blind eye and a deaf ear
To the wisdom that's from above,
So it's back to the jungle,
Unless we get back to the God of love. [repeat]
We have got to,
We've gotta get back, we've gotta get back!
Oh, we have got to,
We've gotta get back [we've gotta get back!] [3X]
